Apple has officially launched its newest smartphones, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing major upgrades to the camera, performance, battery life, and artificial intelligence.

The new models were unveiled on September 9, 2026, and  became available in more than 65 countries, including Canada, on Friday, September 18.

One of the most  notable improvements is the new camera system. 

The iPhone 18 Pro  boasts a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, a feature that gives users great control over how much light enters the camera. 

The camera can automatically adjust the aperture depending on the lighting, while users can also manually select from four aperture settings.

Apple claims this  feature will improve low light photographs, background effects and overall details in pictures.

The updated camera system is also designed to give photographers more control when capturing fast moving subjects and different lighting conditions.

The phone also received a  significant performance upgrade with Apple’s new A20 Pro chip. 

The chip boasts a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and a new Dual 16-core Neural Engine  optimized for artificial intelligence and demanding applications.

Apple has also introduced a redesigned vapour chamber  for enhanced heat  management.

According to the company, this system can provide up to a 40 percent improvement in sustained performance compared with the previous generation. 

This enhancement will be especially useful for people who use their phones for gaming, video editing, or other demanding activities for a long period of time.

Artificial intelligence is another cornerstone of the iPhone 18 Pro. 

The phones run iOS 27 and feature Apple intelligence and a new version of Siri called Siri AI.

The new AI feature, introduced in  beta, can  access information from sources such as messages, photos, and other content to provide more personalized assistance. 

Additionally, Siri AI can also recognize what is displayed on the screen and help users take actions based on that information.

Apple’s continued focus on AI  highlights the broader industry trend of smartphone companies  increasingly  leveraging artificial intelligence to make everyday tasks faster and more personalized.

Battery life has also  seen notable improvement, particularly on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.  

Apple  states the larger model receives its biggest battery-life increase ever for an iPhone, helped by improvements to Apple silicon and a larger battery.

Both Pro models also  feature a smaller Dynamic Island and support newer wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

These changes are intended to make the phones more  convenient for customers who spend long periods watching videos using apps or browsing the internet.

The new phones are available in four finishes: black, silver, glacier and burgundy. Storage options range from 256GB to 2TB.

In Canada, pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,749 CAD, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max  begins at $1,899 CAD. Pre-orders  commenced on September 12, one week before the phones officially arrived in stores.

This year’s launch is notably different from previous iPhone releases  as Apple has not released the standard iPhone 18  alongside the Pro models.

Reports indicate that the regular iPhone 18 is expected to arrive later, reportedly in 2027.

As customers begin receiving the new devices, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup marks another major step in Apple’s focus on cameras,  performance, and artificial intelligence.
