Hong Kong, one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Asia, is actively seeking to attract more international schools, aiming to leverage its high-quality education and research resources.

According to data from the University Grants Committee (UGC), in 2023, approximately 14,800 international undergraduate students were enrolled in the eight higher education institutions in Hong Kong.

Of this total, 10,358 students were from China, while the remaining 4,400 were from other parts of the world.

Hong Kong's universities have consistently ranked higher in the QS World University Rankings, serving as a testament to their high-quality learning environment.

Hong Kong Talent Engage (HKTE), under the Labour and Welfare Bureau of the Hong Kong Government, announced that Hong Kong's top 5 universities are ranked among the Top 100 of the 2025 QS World University Rankings.

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) achieved the highest ranking among the highest within Hong Kong, moving up nine spots to claim the 17th position, breaking its own record of 18th place back in 2007.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) jumped up 11 spots to sit at number 36, which is also the highest it has ever achieved.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) jumped 13 places to return to a top 50 spot at 47, while The Hong Kong Polytechnic University landed at 57th and City University of Hong Kong at 62nd.

Ms. Hong Hye Ryeo, a Korean student majoring in psychology at HKU, points out that one of the strengths of attending college in Hong Kong is the opportunity to connect with students from different cultures and backgrounds, adding that there are numerous opportunities to enhance your language skills and flexibility by engaging with people from diverse backgrounds in an international environment.

Ms. Hong also emphasized that she enjoys taking in-depth classes in areas that interest the students, and there are workshops, talks, and research projects available for networking and learning within HKU.

She further added that there are well-organized groups and activities designed to help Korean students adapt quickly at the universities in Hong Kong.

These resources are not only exclusive for university students but also for high school students who have the opportunity to experience universities in Hong Kong.

Ms. Kang Minji, a 12th-grade student at Delia School of Canada in Hong Kong, participated in the summer courses "A First Step to Data Science with Python" and "Matrix Algebra" at HKUST.

Ms. Kang said that the professors at HKUST communicated well with students through various workshops, which were enrichment activities during the summer program, and that she gained real experience in learning at the university.

CUHK also recommends that international high school students consider joining the summer course to experience college life in Hong Kong, emphasizing that the summer course is open to international students; more details can be found on Summer Institute (SI) | CUHK Summer Programmes.
