On September 25th, 2024, Reese Witherspoon, who played the iconic character Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde,” announced that the casting for young Elle Woods would be open to the public.

The casting is for the prequel to “Legally Blonde,” titled “Elle,” which will tell the story of Elle Wood’s high school life and how it shaped her character in the original movie.

“Legally Blonde” was a movie released in 2001 about a sorority girl who tries to get back together with her ex-boyfriend at Harvard law school and breaks the stereotypes about blondes by becoming one of the most successful lawyers in the nation.

The main character in the movie, Elle Woods, was played by Reese Witherspoon, who announced the big news.

On her Instagram, she informed fans that the audition would be an open casting, meaning anyone is free to send their submission.

With Reese Witherspoon as one of the executive producers, this news brought unexpected excitement to the world.

Additionally, according to ABCnews.com, “Witherspoon said that her company Hello Sunshine is partnering with Amazon on the casting search.”

This was huge news for fans, as “Legally Blonde” is one of the most loved movies.

Following the successful franchise, numerous people have expressed their fascination with this news.

A sophomore who wished to remain anonymous said, “I absolutely love the fact that the audition is open to everyone. As someone who is passionate about acting, I feel like this is providing those who are talented a chance to shine.”

Another student said, “I’m shocked by the fact that a prequel to ‘Legally Blonde’ is coming out, but an open casting? That makes things even better! However, I do wonder who they’ll end up picking out of the huge pool of applicants.”

She also added, “I saw online that others are suggesting Reese Witherspoon’s daughter play the young Elle Woods. I personally think this is a great idea, but having everyone who wants to audition is a unique idea too considering how big a production this is.”

An anonymous middle schooler stated, “You have no idea how excited I am for the prequel! ‘Legally Blonde’ is my favorite movie, and hearing about the unlimited possibility of who the main character will be is mindblowing. I can’t wait to see the final actress!”

On the other hand, some expressed a few concerns.

An anonymous junior stated, “I know that everyone is hyped up by this news, but I do wonder about the possibility of disagreements people might have. In today’s world, people seem to be able to find the slightest problem in things, so if the cast isn’t someone they “imagined”, I think some might make the casting into more of a problem than it needs to be.”

As shown above, the majority of people seem very enthusiastic, along with a few expressing questioning thoughts.

In the end, everyone will have to wait for the final reveal of who the lucky young Elle Woods will be.
