BYD, one of the largest Chinese automakers in the world, has introduced an advanced driver assistance system to cars under $10,000 at no additional cost.
This cutting-edge feature, known as the “God’s Eye” feature was introduced in 2023, but it was previously available only to car models exceeding $30,000.
The God’s Eye will be available in three different models with up to three LiDAR sensors, exciting many consumers about its technology.
The most premium variant is God’s Eye A which adopts three LiDAR sensors and is employed in BYD's high-end Yang Wang brand.
The next mid-tier variant is God’s Eye B which employs one LiDAR unit, which will be employed in the semi-premium Denza brand and flagship BYD vehicles.
The last entry level is God’s Eye C where it employs 12 cameras and 12 ultrasonic radar sensors to offer highway autonomous navigation.
Additionally, BYD announced its plans to integrate DeepSeek, a Chinese AI model, into all its vehicles, enabling chatbot AI to be workable within the car.
This move has further intensified the ongoing price war in electric cars as it is offering better technology cars with the same price.
Chinese consumers have responded enthusiastically at the fact that they will be able to experience the carmaker's proprietary "God's Eye".
The introduction of this model led BYD to have its shares record very high.
The shares of BYD skyrocketed by 4% and recorded very high; its shares were last traded at 330 Hong Kong Dollars.
In fact, the driver assistance system model is known to be 69,800 Yuan, equivalent to $9,555.
BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu stated that 2025 will mark the beginning of intelligent driving and claimed how important highly intelligent driving will be in automobiles within the next three years: “ "no longer an unattainable luxury, but an essential tool... like safety belts and airbags".
He also declared that now is the starting era where autonomous driving will be possible for everyone.
Currently, BYD ranks sixth in global car sales which is very high and it has dominated the Chinese market by having 32% of the new energy vehicle sales.
BYD’s competitor, Tesla, also released similar self-driving features in the US where it charged a subscription fee of $99 a month or a one time payment of $8,000.
Tu Le, the managing director of the consultancy Sino Auto Insights, claimed that Tesla must reconsider its subscription plan as this can deter consumers from purchasing.
Unlike Tesla, BYD is providing affordable pricing for the driver assistance system.
Tesla is currently waiting for regulatory approval to launch this model into the Chinese market.
From 2019 to 2023, Tesla led global battery electric vehicle sales, but, from 2023, BYD exceeded the sales value of Tesla and is skyrocketing beyond 2025.
BYD’s strategy not only impacted Tesla, but it also affected Chinese competitors such as Xpeng and Geely Auto, whose shares dropped significantly on Tuesday.
With these innovations, BYD continues to offer good pricing as it adopts an aggressive pricing strategy.
With the price war with Tesla, BYD asked its suppliers last year to deliver their suppliers with a 10% reduction in prices.
