The 2026 World Baseball Classic  concluded on March 17,  marking the end of a 12-day tournament that featured 20 national teams competing across Tokyo, San Juan, Houston, and Miami.

Combining established stars and  surprising performances, the event  reaffirmed its  status as baseball’s most important international competition.

At the start of the tournament,  the Japan national baseball team was the top favorite to  win the championship because they won the last WBC in 2023. 

However, things did not go as planned for them. Japan was knocked out earlier than expected, which shocked most  fans. 

Their  early exit made the tournament even more  exciting, giving other teams a chance to show off their skills.

In the group stage,  powerhouse teams like the United States national baseball team, Venezuela national baseball team, and Dominican Republic national baseball team  performed exceptionally and  advanced to the next round.

At the same time, one team that really stood out to everyone was the Italy national baseball team. 

Italy played strong  baseball, even  beating the United States in the early rounds.

They did not lose a single game in their group, which made  many start to believe they could go far in the tournament.

The quarterfinals were  filled with excitement and  dramatic moments. 

One of the most important games was when Venezuela played against Japan. 

Venezuela won the game 8-5, which was a huge upset to Japanese fans.

This game  highlighted Venezuela’s  strength, especially with their powerful hitting. 

Another  thrilling game was between Italy  and the Puerto Rico national baseball team. 

Italy  emerged victorious with a narrow 8-6 win in a close game,  allowing  them to reach the semifinals for the first time ever.

In the semifinals, the United States  faced the Dominican  Republic in a  tightly contested, low-scoring game,  ultimately emerging victorious with a score of 2-1. 

Their pitching was  strong, and they were able to score at the right time.

The other semifinal game was between Venezuela and Italy. 

Italy started  strong, taking the lead, but Venezuela  rallied later in the game.

They scored important runs and  secured a 4-2 victory, which sent them to the final for the first time in their history.

The final game is between the United States and Venezuela, and it is being played in Miami. 

Both teams have  performed exceptionally well  throughout the tournament, so it is hard to  predict who will  emerge victorious.

The United States  is eager to win its second WBC title, while Venezuela is  seeking to  claim its first ever championship.

Overall, the 2026 World Baseball Classic has  delivered an array of  thrilling games, surprises, and  outstanding performances.
