The Mubadala Citi DC Open concluded on July 27, 2025, after an exciting week of world-class tennis that drew enthusiastic crowds and featured interactive fan experiences, making  Washington, D.C., the center of the tennis world.

This tournament holds significant importance as the only combined ATP-WTA 500-level tennis tournament in the world, showcasing top-ranked players from both the men’s and women’s tours and serving as a key event in the U.S. summer hard-court season.

Players faced soaring temperatures above 100°F that tested their physical limits, while multiple rain delays further disrupted match schedules.

Despite these challenging weather conditions, the tournament saw several breakthrough performances, including many players who delivered career-defining wins on both the ATP and WTA tours.

On the final day of the tournament, Alex de Minaur and Leylah Fernandez were crowned singles champions.

Fernandez’s tournament run included several remarkable victories, most notably over No. 1 seed Jessica Pegula and an intense three-hour, twelve-minute semifinal matchup with No. 3 seed Elena Rybakina, which featured three tie-breakers.

In the final, Fernandez defeated Anna Kalinskaya, who had defeated 2021 US Open winner Emma Raducanu to advance to the championship match.

Earlier in the tournament, Emma Raducanu defeated 2018 US Open winner Naomi Osaka and renowned Greek athlete Maria Sakkari on her way to the semifinals.

Frances Tiafoe, a local favorite, advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to Ben Shelton in their all-American showdown.

Ben Shelton advanced to the semifinals in the men's draw but lost to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who reached the men’s final.

Venus Williams, who was awarded a wild card entry into the tournament, made a remarkable return to professional tennis after a 16-month break and secured a historic first-round victory over world No. 35 Peyton Stearns before being eliminated in the second round by world No. 24 Magdalena Frech.

Throughout the event, fans had the unique opportunity to watch players up close at the outdoor practice courts by the Market Square Food Hall and the indoor gym at the Player Lounge before their matches, gaining an inside look at their warm-ups and training routines.

Beyond the thrilling matches and intense practices, the event also offered a variety of other attractions, including diverse food options and interactive booths for fans to enjoy.

Attendees were treated to a culinary experience from diverse dining options, featuring both local favorites and renowned chefs at the Market Square Food Hall and the Mi Campo Tequila Lounge.

The event also offered a variety of fun booths and activities for fans, including a photo zone with giant tennis balls for playful photo ops, and the interactive dropshot challenge, where attendees tested their tennis skills and competed for prizes such as free tennis balls, bamboo folding fans, and stickers.

Hyundai, as one of the key sponsors of the tournament, spotlighted the all-new 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid at the event and offered attendees a chance to win one through an on-site raffle.

The Mubadala Citi DC Open served as a key preview for the US Open in late August, highlighting early hard-court momentum, breakthrough performances, and an unforgettable fan experience off the court.
