Over 80,000 fans gathered to watch the Savannah Bananas play at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas last weekend.

The Savannah Bananas showcase their own unique style of baseball, called ‘Banana Ball’.

Both nights were completely sold out, marking a significant achievement for the team’s first time playing in Kansas City.

The fact that both nights sold out demonstrated the high level of interest there is in their unique style of baseball among fans in the US.

The primary appeal of the Savannah Bananas is how they promote fan engagement, with the game being centered around getting the fans involved.

Even the rules created by the team are tailored to enhance engagement with the fans.

One notable example of this is that fans can catch foul balls to get players out, which has excited young fans across the United States hoping to catch a baseball player out in front of the entire stadium.

At the game, these unconventional rules create a festival atmosphere that draws in fans from many different places simply because there is so much to see and do at the event.

Aside from playing baseball, the Bananas also dance and perform comedy skits during the game, turning the game into a spectacle for the fans.

This unique approach has led to a wide range of support from all over, with fans wanting to be part of the game and part of the fun.

Fans will often attend games in banana costumes and wearing banana shaped helmets in support of their team.

Their visit to Kansas City was part of a 2025 Banana Ball World Tour, which includes games in 40 cities across 25 states.

As the Savannah Bananas are known for their blend of athletic skills with theatrical performances, their  popularity across the nation has steadily risen.

Their appearance at Kauffman Stadium marked a significant moment for local fans and proved just how fast Banana Ball is growing.

The Bananas are based in Savannah, Georgia, and function as a collegiate summer baseball team playing in the Coastal Plain League.

They began due to the team’s co-owner and manager creating Banana Ball to make baseball shorter and more exciting.

Therefore, games are typically two hours or less, much quicker than regular baseball games, which can add to the excitement.

What really captivates the crowd, however, are the choreographed dances and the comedic performances  by the  players, which have kept up solid crowd numbers and boosted the game’s popularity.

This of course has meant the team has gained a lot of attention on social media, especially as their approach to the game is so unique and fans can constantly interact with the players.

The team’s social media presence has expanded quickly as more people learn about this new style of baseball entertainment, with their dances being posted on TikTok and Instagram for younger viewers to watch, and copy.

Overall, Savannah Bananas games have become known for being family-friendly and highly interactive, which makes it even easier for fans to post their reactions to the game on social media.

Their goal is to make baseball fun and accessible for everyone, even those who aren’t traditional fans of the sport;, making  the games a good way to have a day out with the family.

With the success of the Savannah Bananas, the intersection of sports and entertainment has again shown another avenue for growth and another way to interact with fans.

In the future, perhaps other sports and teams will follow the Bananas’ philosophy of adapting the rules to maximize entertainment value.
