Liverpool clinched the 2024-2025 Premier League season title on matchday 34 with an impressive 5:1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

The victory on April 28th gave the Reds an unassailable 15-point lead over second-place Arsenal with four games remaining.

Manager Arne Slot’s side needed just a point to claim their crown and did so emphatically in front of their home supporters.

However, the start was far from ideal, with former Liverpool striker Dominke Solanke scoring in the 12th minute off a James Maddison corner to give the lead to the away side.

The lead only lasted minutes, as Luis Diaz equalized from Dominik Szoboszlai’s pass.

The home side dominated the game from then on, with Alexis MacAllister and Cody Gakpo putting Liverpool ahead by halftime.

Despite Tottenham’s best efforts to recover from the two goal deficit, Mohamed Salah’s 28th league goal and Destiny Udogie’s own goal completed Liverpool’s definite 5:1 victory.

The Reds’ 20th win of the season increased the gap between them and Arsenal to 15 points, granting their second Premier League title of the modern era.

Many Liverpool supporters started the 2024-2025 campaign with concern following Jurgen Klopp’s resignation as head coach.

The iconic German figure managed the club for 9 years, winning seven trophies including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

Fans were apprehensive when Arne Slot, a relatively unfamiliar Dutch figure from the Eredivisie League, was appointed as Klopp’s successor.

Despite the pressure of the daunting record of Klopp, Slot’s transition to Liverpool has been remarkable.

The team has achieved 25 wins out of 34 with merely two defeats, as Slot’s high- pressure style has proven ideal for the Merseyside team, who have maintained  their spot at the top of the league since November 2nd.

Having been crowned as champions with four games to spare, Slot made history as he became the fifth manager in Premier League history to win a title in their first season in charge.

The win allowed Liverpool to celebrate the title with fans for the first time since 1990, as their last title victory came in 2020 occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The celebrations began even before the match started, with fans expressing confidence that their side would secure the title.

With Tottenham unable to spoil the party, the fans let it all out, parading within and outside the stadium, as the city was covered in red.

As the field filled with red smoke, and the Liverpool squad gathered to celebrate, the resounding chants of the phrase “champions” rang throughout the stadium.

Arne Slot paid his tribute to former manager Jurgen Klopp, chanting his name out loud in front of thousands of fans.

Klopp had done the same for Slot before he left, welcoming him to the club in front of the home stand.

In an interview, Slot stated, “The moment I knew I would become the new head coach over here, that's already a moment that you're so proud of – to be part of such a great football club. Then now to be part of the history of this football club is something I think I could only have dreamt of two, three or four years ago”.

While Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League, most supporters would consider the first season under Arne Slot a success, as no other team in the league came close to competing with Liverpool.
