From the beginning of May 2024, Donald Trump has been accused of several crimes: tax fraud, hush money usage towards prostitutes, and violating federal and state election law.
The accusations started with the hush money.
Regarding the hush money, Donald Trump was accused of making payments to Stormy Daniels, also known as Stephanie Clifford, who is an adult film star.
It was revealed that Donald Trump made payments to Daniels to prevent her from saying that she had a sexual encounter with Trump, which could create great confusion and scandals if released to the public.
Trump used the “hush money” since he believed that his relationship with Stormy Daniels could impact the outcome of the election; this led him to try and hush Daniels from revealing their relationship.
The amount of money given to Daniels was revealed to be $130,000; this amount was given to benefit his 2016 presidential campaign.
This proved how Trump had used payments to cover his criminal behavior and that charges could be made against him, leading him to be judged in court.
Now, there are many inquiries on whether Donald Trump will still be able to run for president.
Fortunately for Trump, the US Constitution does not have any strict requirements for presidential candidates.
The requirements include the following: candidates have to be at least 35 years old and they have to be natural-born US citizens who have lived in the US for at least 14 years.
As the requirements did not include anything regarding criminal records, he was still eligible to run for the presidential election.
However, the public’s opinion was still divided on Trump's: 53% of voters claimed they would not vote for Trump if he were convicted.
There are many factors to consider regarding Trump’s sentencing .
First, Trump’s age at 77 years old has to be considered in sentencing.
He could be fined, put on probation or supervised, or spend his time in prison.
On the other hand, Trump could also not be sentenced anytime soon: he would have time to appeal to court where he would remain free in the mean time.
Todd Blanche, the lawyer of Trump, stated that he would appeal the verdict as soon as he can; he also revealed that the process of appealing and getting the result can take up to months or years .
Joe Biden, at the same time, stated “No one is above the law” after the verdict, revealing how it will be impossible for Trump to avoid the law if he has committed a crime.
Furthermore, there are other crimes such as his illegal attempt at trying to win the presidential election in 2016.
In fact, he has been found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records.
The Trump family and the Republicans showed profound anger and exasperation.
Donal Trump Jr claimed Democrats had “succeeded in their years-long attempt to turn America into a third-world shithole”.
Furthermore, the Republicans stated how “un-American the weaponized justice system has become under Joe Biden and Democrats”.
Now, America will have to wait for the result; Donald Trump will be sentenced on July 11th at 10 am Eastern Time.
