Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, claimed that Ukraine ordered the attack on the Moscow City Hall to ISIS.
On March 22nd, a group of terrorists broke into Crocus City Hall in Moscow and shot 6,000 citizens who had gathered to see a rock concert.
Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Russian Federal Investigation Committee, reported that this attack was meticulously planned.
The total number of injured was 182, and the death toll from terrorism has risen from 137 to 139, including three children and 75 identified individuals.
While ISIS claimed responsibility for the terror attack with video evidence, Russian officials accused Ukraine without providing any proof.
Immediately after the terror, ISIS-K Horasan, an extremist Islamic group, claimed responsibility for the incident.
The poster, which has been widely shared in Russian, is headed “Threat to all cruel Russians, including Putin,” and features an image of a masked man holding a knife.
Below, the poster states, “Be warned, do not think that we do not have the opportunity to avenge our brothers held hostage. With Friday's attack, we showed you that with the permission of Allah, ISIS can punish you for your savagery.”
ISIS and Russia are known to have conflicts across the Middle East, including civil wars in Georgia, Syria, and Iraq, which further intensified their mutual ill feelings.
However, President Putin has not even mentioned ISIS in public statements since the terrorist attacks; he tries to redirect the responsibility by stating Ukraine and the West are behind all terrorist acts in Moscow City Hall.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, responded to Russia’s claim by saying that Vladimir Putin is trying to blame “someone else” for the Moscow attack.
According to TASS, a Russian investigation committee announced that the terrorists received a substantial amount of cash from Ukraine.
However, specific evidence wasn’t provided.
Like the Ukrainian authorities, the U.S. government also responded directly through John Kirby, the White House National Security Communications Advisor, that Putin and Russian officials are trying to blame Ukraine and the U.S., but it is clear that ISIS is fully responsible for the terror in Moscow.
“Moscow attackers were caught trying to escape towards Ukraine,” Putin stated with the aim ofraising suspicions that Ukraine was behind the attacks.
It is also assumed that Putin’s words intended to address the potential backlash from Russia’s 20 million Muslims and to hinder his Middle East policy, which has been diligently pursued.
As Russia has become more obsessed with oil due to sanctions, there is concern that Russia's Middle East policy may become more radical in the future, leading to an increase in activities by Islamic extremist terrorist groups within Russia.
Russia – suffered from terror – is currently dealing with an epidemic of evacuations and false alarms.
On the morning of March 25th, there was a massive evacuation due to bomb threats at three major shopping centers in Moscow.
This fear of terrorism contributes to disorder in Russia.
Addtionally, Western European countries are vigilant against potential acts of terrorism.
France raised its national security alertness to the maximum level during the summer Olympics, while Italy opted for increased surveillance and screening measures ahead of the large crowds expected for resurrection day, set for March 31st.
