On June 16, one of the worst shipwrecks in the European area occurred.

Currently, the survivors are sheltered in Kalamata, located in Greece.

In the port, men from Syria, Egypt, and Pakistan are tightly packed in corridors of a warehouse.

Because this shipwreck was one of the worst in the past few years, survivors were interviewed by the press to share what exactly happened and what the situation was like.

Later, it was found out that there were around 400 to 750 on the boat, which was too many compared to the amount the ship was supposed to hold.

The overloaded boat caused the ship to sink faster and took around 78 lives, possibly more, as many are still missing.

As of now, 104 have survived and are currently held in the warehouse to be used as a refuge for the time being.

The sinking of the ship all started when the immigrants wanted to sail from Libya to reach Italy to live a better life.

A few smugglers helped these people illegally move across the sea to their desired location illegally.

When they reached Greece, the Greek Coast Guard ship went up to the boat to ask if they wanted help several times as it seemed that the engine failed and other problems like lacking life vests were occurring.

While the engine failed, there were around a hundred aboard below deck when it started to sink into the deepest end of the Mediterranean.

Though many believe that the Greek Coast Guard ship wanted to help, a survivor stated that the guard ship was not doing much as the boat started to sink.

On the other hand, the Greek Coast Guard promised that they were trying to save anyone they could.

Still,  since the boat was sinking too fast, they could not save most of the people aboard.

With this accident, Europe’s migration crisis is arising again and spreading the issue.

Though the pandemic decreased the migration crisis, the problem still exists, causing many to die as they are willing to sacrifice anything to find a better life in Europe.

As the years go by, it is getting harder to find a way into European countriessince harsh measures are being put up.

Authorities are saying that it is not the policies but the smugglerscausing the increase in the deaths of migrants.

In this case, the nine smugglers, now arrested, had brought the immigrants illegally and were responsible for the countless deaths aboard the ship.

There have been many other times when smugglers illegally transferred migrants, which sometimes led to death like this accident or denying necessities like food and water to the passengers while being transported for the better life the migrants dream of.

It is not helping that authorities are not taking precautions and are ready to do anything that will usually benefit themselves only.

Even in this recent shipwreck, it is known that the Greek Coast Guards were okay with the reply no for help since they could give the responsibility to Italy as the ship was originally headed there.

Through this issue, opinions have been divided into two.

One is that they should not blame the government since the smugglers and countries allowed them to go on the journey with an overloaded boat.

Others blame the government, and many now protest to ease the migration policy to prevent this problem from occurring again.
