On June 28th, former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden both participated in a high-stakes Presidential debate to address issues like Medicare and international relations.
The debate was intended to sway undecided voters, but it instead sparked widespread criticism and disappointment among viewers.
Many citizens expressed frustration over Biden’s performance, pointing out his frequent stumbles and difficulty articulating his points.
On the other hand, Trump was criticized for making misleading statements over various topics, including the storming of the Capitol and Biden’s tax policies.
The aftermath of the debate left many Americans feeling uncertain about the presidential race.
One voter has stated, “One can barely form a sentence and the other is lying all the time.”
The debate has divided the electorate, with Trump supporters, Biden supporters, and more voters now unsure about who to vote for.
Biden supporters have defended him, arguing that Trump is misogynistic and racist, and that it is unfair for people to judge Biden based on one debate.
The debate caught the world’s attention, with some foreign commentators from places like Russia and China mockingly calling it a “joke” and a “reality show.”
However, things took a serious turn when Trump was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
A man named Thomas Matthew Crooks fired an AR-15 into the crowd, injuring Trump in the ear and killing two other people.
He was immediately shot down by a Secret Service sniper.
After this incident, the majority of the Republicans were quick to blame Biden and his supporters for the shooting, insinuating that he himself had encouraged the attack.
While Trump’s defiant gesture, shown in the photo of him raising his hand after being shot, was hailed by some as a symbol of patriotism.
This act led to predictions that Trump might win the election by a landslide.
Then, in an unexpected twist, Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race.
Sources close to Biden suggested that his decision was influenced by growing concerns over his physical health and pressure from his party.
However, the full motive behind the dropout is not clear.
Following Biden’s exit, former Vice President Kamala Harris stepped in as the Democratic nominee, with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a 60-year-old former National Guard member, as her running mate.
Harris has had a hard time gaining support, with some voters saying that her only argument against Trump is calling Trump “weird” and accusing Republicans of being creepy and unethical, instead of offering a strong policy plan.
Despite this, many acknowledge that Harris is a stronger candidate than Biden, though her chances against Trump remain uncertain given the recent turmoil.
As the race moves forward, the nation remains on edge, uncertain of what lies ahead in one of the most chaotic election cycles in recent history.
